Purpose of this website

443.ch is a private, non-commercial IT knowledge project. The website is used to document, preserve and share technical knowledge relating primarily to Linux, IT infrastructure, networking and security.

Why 443.ch?

The name 443.ch refers to TCP port 443, the standard port used for HTTPS. HTTPS protects web communication in transit using TLS encryption and authenticates the identity of the server through digital certificates. Port 443 therefore reflects the core themes of this project: networking, infrastructure and IT security.

The logo is inspired by the seven layers of the OSI model. Its seven stacked blue elements represent the Physical, Data Link, Network, Transport, Session, Presentation and Application layers. Together, they symbolise the layered architecture that makes modern network communication possible — from the physical connection to the applications used by people and systems.

The combination of 443 and the seven-layer symbol expresses the idea behind 443.ch: understanding technology from its network foundations through to secure application communication.
